Daniel was not afraid to pray even when it meant being throw into the lions den. Why don't we pray more? It is a lot deeper than saying we are lazy, we are afraid of what real prayer will mean in our lives. Yet we should not be afraid to pray we need to embrace it so we can glorify God prosper in this world that we live in.
We live in a culture that is pluralistic. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego lived in a similar culture. They had a choice, to engage the culture or assimilate to it. Unfortunately many Christians chose to assimilate instead of engaging the culture with the gospel.
Mathew 10:30,31 Jesus said that if we confess him before men he will confess us before his father. What keeps us from being a witness for Jesus? When we love Jesus more than we love anything else we will become a better witness for him.
John 6:41-71 - Jesus made it clear that real belief means you will eat and drink of the son of man, the bread of life. Many of his disciples turned back because they said it was too hard. Peter said to Jesus, we are not going anywhere else, you have the words of life.
Jesus fed over 10,000 people. The next day they came back looking for more bread but they missed the point of who Jesus was and that he is the true bread from heaven. Substitutes may satisfy us for a time, but they they can never replace the true bread, Jesus.
We may think it is very difficult to raise our kids to love God in such a hostile culture, but when we consider the circumstances of Jochebed and how she was able to influence Moses even though he was taught in all the ways of Egypt, we realize we may not have it so tough. Jochebed was able to raise a prince in the midst of a hostile environment.
